Behavioural science lays out a realistic understanding of human behaviour—why do humans do what they do. How users think and make a choice, why consumers mark out on a particular journey, how and when do people take actions. Behavioural science can help in construing these behavioural patterns using empirical evidences and processes, and apply its principles in various contexts of business, management and policy making.

This programme, Applications of Behavioural Science in Management: The CXO Playbook, the first of its kind in the Indian context, will introduce the concepts and insights from behavioural science, and foresee its usefulness in user research, product design, marketing, communications, strategic planning and management decision-making. Using the understanding from the insights, we will develop actionable interventions in different areas that can help increase the effectiveness of interventions for a CXO.

The programme is designed to explore various areas, including:

  1. Understand how people think and make decisions.
  2. Develop a systematic framework for assessing behaviour change requirements
  3. Translate behaviour change requirements into action points
  4. Implement behaviour change interventions as appropriate behaviour and choice architectures
  5. Link behaviour and choice architecture of interventions to business performance.
  1. Understanding human behaviour from the perspective of brain: Brain Operating Principles (BOP) and CXO Interventions
  2. Decision making: The RECU approach
  3. Heuristics and biases as applications of BOP for CXOs
  4. Profiling relevant stakeholders
  5. Designing behavioural interventions
  6. Implementing behavioural interventions for business outcomes

The course will use case studies, case discussions, lectures, role plays, in-class experiments, presentations and group discussions to deliver the programme content. The programme will also provide an opportunity to the participants to see the latest technology tools (EEG and eye tracker) and examples of applications.

The programme is designed for CXOs across functional areas and sectors. The course will also be useful for Group A and Central Service officers with 10-15 years of experience. The key requirement is that participants have a certain level of responsibility and KRAs in their organisations and are managing teams. An important KRA is to enhance the productivity of the team that they oversee.
