Executive Programme in Financial Planning and Investment Advisory Services

The Executive Programme in Financial Planning and Investment Advisory Services, jointly offered with Financial Planning Standards Board India (FPSB), is an advanced programme designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the field of financial planning and investment advisory services. The programme is aimed at individuals who already possess a foundational understanding of finance or related fields and are seeking to deepen their expertise, as well as those who aim to obtain necessary certifications and regulatory approvals for practising financial advisory services.

The topics covered in this programme are diverse and include pricing models of financial assets, risk and return characteristics of financial markets and alternative asset classes, asset allocation,  investment management, retirement planning, tax planning, estate planning, insurance, and alternative investments. Participants will gain knowledge about a variety of financial products, regulatory frameworks, best practices in the sector, and ethical standards necessary for providing customers with sound financial advice.

A key emphasis is placed on the impact of fintech and the role of psychology in financial advisory services, helping professionals effectively engage with retail clients and family offices. Additionally, a dedicated module shall focus on marketing, negotiation and communication skills, ensuring participants develop the strategic and interpersonal competencies needed to succeed in the field.

 

Mode of Delivery

The programme will be delivered in a blended format, combining online and on-campus learning experiences. It will include 9 days of campus immersion, divided into three modules, along with weekend online sessions spread over approximately 8 months.

Campus Modules:

First Campus Module: Sept 29 - Oct 1, 2025

Second Campus Module: March 9 - 11, 2026

Final Campus Module: September 21 - 23, 2026

Online Sessions:

The online sessions will be held in between, every Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm.

 

Certification and IIMA Alumni Status:

At the end of the Programme, eligible participants will be awarded a Certificate of Participation and Alumni Status from IIM Ahmedabad.

How to Apply



Faculty Chair

Joshy Jacob is a Professor in the Finance and Accounting area at IIMA. Prof. Joshy’s teaching and research interests are in behavioral finance, corporate finance, and financing of early-stage firms. He has many publications in leading international finance journals. He has also published many case studies about innovative financing models adopted by large Indian firms and startups.

In the early career, he was associated with the financial services industry and maintained a keen interest in applied issues in finance. He has been a member of several expert sub-committees set up by EPFO, Niti Ayog, and industry associations. He was a member of the advisory committee on investments set up by the EPFO and the commodities market committee of FICCI. He also served on the board of a power distribution company as an independent director. Currently, he chairs the Fintech evaluation committee constituted by the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA).

He has been involved in many executive training programs for leading private and public organizations such as HDFC, L&T, Cummins India, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, LIC, and IOC. He, jointly with colleagues, maintains a regularly updated data library on the performance of the Indian equity market for public use. Prof. Joshy is a Fellow (Ph.D) from the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow. He was awarded the Bharti Foundation Scholarship for academic performance during the programme.

Prof. Joshy Jacob

Balagopal Gopalakrishnan is an Associate Professor of Finance and Accounting at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. He earned his doctoral degree from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. He is a certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM) from Global Association of Risk Professionals, an MBA in Finance from S P Jain, and a BE (ECE) from NIT Surathkal. Gopalakrishnan's research interests include financial intermediation, financing of firms, venture investing, and gold. He has eight years of pre-doctoral corporate work experience in banking, risk management, and semiconductor design across three geographies. For his teaching at IIMA, he has been awarded the ‘Marti Mannariah Gurunath Outstanding Teacher Award’ in 2025 and the ‘SRK Distinguished PGPX Faculty Award’ in 2023. His research work has been published in leading journals such as Journal of Banking and Finance, British Accounting Review, Journal of Economic Behaviour and Organization, Corporate Governance: an International Review, and Economic Modelling. He has worked on several consultancy projects for organizations such as Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India, National Stock Exchange, Financial Benchmarks India Ltd, and Multi Commodity Exchange.

Prof. Balagopal Gopalakrishnan

Ellapulli Vasudevan is currently part of the Finance and Accounting faculty group at IIMA. Before joining IIMA, Dr. Vasudevan was Assistant Professor of Finance at ESCP Business School, Paris. He holds a Ph.D. from Aalto Business School in Finland. Dr. Vasudevan's research interests are in behavioral finance, focusing on retail investor behavior. He also studies labor implications of policies in the financial sector. Dr. Vasudevan has delivered research seminars at some leading European business schools, such as ESCP Paris, Manchester Business School, and SSE Stockholm, and leading Indian schools, such as IIMA, IIMB, and ISB Hyderabad. He has attended, given, and discussed research at international conferences such as European Retail Investor Conference, World Finance Conference, Centre for European Policy Research conference, etc. His research is cited by some of the leading financial media, including FT, Bloomberg, and the NY Times. Before his doctorate, Dr. Vasudevan did PGDM from IIM Indore and B-Tech from IIT Roorkee. He has taught topics related to financial markets and advanced topics in investment management.
